Riding Holidays at Whitelady House

Unforgettable riding on Dartmoor

We can take you deep into the moors with an expert guide and ground support at the pace you choose — including exhilarating fast canters.

Our itineraries include one, two and three day rides.

Dartmoor is arguably the finest place in Britain to ride, and local firm Liberty Trails specialises in adventure rides that take you far across the moors. Each day you will ride between 12-25 km taking in some of Dartmoor’s most spectacular scenery.

Of course you’ll see plenty of Dartmoor’s native ponies, plus moorland cattle, buzzards, skylarks, standing stones and more, with an expert guide to ensure you avoid the local bogs while learning all about the moor’s history, legends and wildlife. There are plenty of opportunities to move at a fast pace for experienced riders. Guests may ride Liberty Trails horses or even if they wish, bring their own.

Lunch is served in a local beauty spot, be that a tor with a stunning view, or perhaps on the lawns outside a favourite Dartmoor inn.

Throughout you will be accompanied by an experienced guide who has intimate knowledge of the moor and its changing moods, with ground support on call at all times — there are large areas of moors that have no mobile coverage!

At the end of each day, you’ll finish the trail at a privately owned stable yard in a perfect setting, where you’ll be able to un-tack and settle your horse, relax over a cup of tea or a cold beer, and share stories of a great day in the saddle with your new friends.

Once the horses are settled, you’ll be taken back to Whitelady House to enjoy a soak in the Hot Tub before dinner followed by a good night’s sleep in a very comfortable bed. Next day, after a good breakfast, you’ll be taken back to the yard where your horse will be relaxed and ready to ride out for another amazing day.

Horses riding across Dartmoor

One of the best ways to discover Dartmoor is on horseback. If you’re a novice or a beginner there is a trekking centre close by offering an hour or twos pony trekking. For keen and experienced riders, wanting a full day in the saddle or a multi-day ride we have joined up with Liberty Trails.

Whitelady waterfall

The Whitelady house dates back to the 1600’s. It was the farm house to the Manor hence its original name of Manor Farm. This was changed when the house was renovated to reflect it's position next to the Whitelady Waterfall in Lydford Gorge, the deepest gorge in the South West.

Dining room laid for a meal

At Whitelady House we offer self-catering with the option of meals made to order ahead of your arrival,  or a  "chalet" style catering where we come in and cook for you at Whitelady House. For cooking alfresco there is a firepit with BBQ grill or (for an additional charge) wood-fired ovens are available.
